BEFORE YOUR VISIT

Your first physiotherapy visit at GraMedica

A first visit can feel uncertain. Here's what to bring, what to expect, and how to prepare so we make the most of our time together.

What to bring

Depending on your condition or surgical history, please bring:

  1. Recent diagnostic imaging (within the last 2 years): X-ray, ultrasound, CT, MRI.
  2. Hospital discharge papers, if your visit follows surgery, this is mandatory.
  3. Comfortable clothing (sports gear works well) that doesn't restrict movement, especially in the limbs and trunk. From experience, short shorts and a loose t-shirt are ideal.

What to expect: individual therapy

The more information you give me, the more accurate and faster the diagnosis and treatment. We'll start with an intake and discuss your overall health.

Think through these before your visit:

  1. Where exactly does the discomfort show up?
  2. What's the character of the pain: sharp, point-localised, spreading, radiating, dull, blocking?
  3. When does it appear: morning, evening, during specific activities, at a specific time of day?
  4. Is this a new or familiar sensation?
  5. Is it a recurring condition?
  6. When does it get worse: time of day, physical activity, static positions?
  7. When does it improve: does self-care help (foam rolling, stretching)?
  8. Are you taking any medications?
  9. Could the issue be linked to a past accident: ankle sprain, car accident, surgery?
  10. Does stress activate or intensify the discomfort?
  11. Does it activate with specific emotions: sadness, anger, frustration?
  12. Does the pain come with seemingly unrelated symptoms: reflux, digestive issues?

After the intake: I'll run a hands-on assessment and functional movement tests. With the full picture, we begin treatment.

For your comfort: don't eat for 2 hours before the session. After treatment a short 5–10 minute walk, plenty of water (around 2 litres), and rest are recommended.

First visit after surgery

The first session is usually mostly informational. Bring your hospital discharge papers. We'll go through your rehabilitation plan, what you can do safely, and what to avoid in the post-surgical phase.

Active exercise and hands-on technique start gradually, after consulting your operating physician and following the protocol appropriate to your procedure (ACL, shoulder, spine, hip, other).
